Linda L. Kotis joined DC Affordable Law Firm as Probate & Estate Planning Senior Counsel in March 2025. Working alongside the Probate & Estate Planning Managing Attorney, Linda develops and executes case strategy, mentoring and advising fellows and staff in their probate and estate planning cases and their professional development as practitioners. Linda also provides direct representation, advice, and advocacy on behalf of DCALF clients and community members.
Linda has extensive experience in sophisticated estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters for individuals and families located in many jurisdictions. In her positions at Am Law 500 and boutique firms, she created simple and complex estate plans, drafted marital agreements, and created and transferred interests in business entities. Linda has worked on decantings, mergers, nonjudicial settlement agreements, and amendments to modify irrevocable trusts to address fiduciary, beneficiary, and administrative issues. She has drafted court petitions to approve estate transactions. She has advised on charitable gift matters, planning with retirement assets, and fiduciary duty and trust administration issues.
Linda has written numerous articles on estate planning topics for Kiplinger, ABA Probate and Property Magazine, Bloomberg BNA Tax Report, Leimberg Information Services Inc., Washington Lawyer, Trusts and Estates Journal, and other publications. Linda has presented individually and as a panelist at the DC Bar, Estates, Trusts and Probate Community, Greater Washington Nonprofit Greater Washington Society of CPAs Nonprofit Symposium, WIPL Executive Leadership Forum, the American Bar Association, and in other settings.
Linda served on her firm’s DEI Committee and participated in the creation of its 1L Diversity Scholar program. Throughout her career, she has mentored associates and staff to help them refine their skills and identify opportunities for professional development. She has been a donor and volunteer with local and national nonprofits meeting the needs of underserved populations and communities.
Linda earned her law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School and her bachelor's degree in textile science from the University of Tennessee.
