LEEN VAN BESIEN (SHE/HER/HERS/ELLA)
DCALF FELLOW
Leen van Besien is a recent Georgetown grad originally from Chicago, Illinois.
Her interest in social justice has led her to work all over the world. Previously she used her STEM background to work as a software engineer and help build systems for public health, clean energy, and poverty alleviation initiatives in India and East Africa. However, after several years of working in the back offices as a software engineer, she had a change of heart and decided to pursue a career in law so that she could work directly with clients in need. In law school, Leen participated in the Harrison Institute’s Policy Clinic and the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. During her summers, she interned with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender and the International Program of Earthjustice.
After many years working in many different places, Leen is thrilled to be at DCALF and build deeper connections to the community in DC, the city she now calls home.
