DCALF FELLOW

Jayla Tolson joined the DC Affordable Law Firm in August of 2024. Jayla came to DCALF with an undying passion for providing legal services to underrepresented individuals in her hometown, through the practice of both probate and family law. With many roots in the area, Jayla strives to connect with the community, provide zealous representation, and create a safe space for her clients.

Jayla received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. And she graduated cum laude from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law in Washington, D.C. In law school, Jayla exemplified her passion for public service by clerking with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender’s Juvenile Division. She also served as a student attorney in both the Criminal Law Clinic, where she represented indigent individuals in criminal cases and parole matters; and, in the Whistleblower Protection Clinic, representing clients who fell victim to illegal conduct at the hands of corporations and the government.

In addition to her public service work, Jayla also participated in various student organizations in law school. Most notably serving as the Director of Special Events for the Black Law Student Association and President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Student Association, where she spearheaded the revival of the organization at her university.

Amongst her different experiences, passions, and interests, Jayla consistently remains a proponent of helping the underdog. She understands the importance of providing zestful representation to all, especially those who are underserved and overlooked. Jayla is currently pursuing her LL.M. in Advocacy at Georgetown University Law Center.
